Seeking to push the developmental and practical bounds of hydrogen fuel cells, the Formula Zero Championship Race in Rotterdam, Holland (which took place on August 26, 2008) seeks to combine high-speeds with zero-emission fuel cells. H2scan proudly supports and sponsors the UCLA-based HercUCLA team (one of two finalist teams from the United States) by donating a HY-ALERTA 500 handheld hydrogen leak detector for their use in preparing for the race. The Spanish team, EuplatecH2, won the final round of this race.
H2scan’s Vice President of Sales and Business Development, Cyril Berg stated, “Our HY-ALERTA 500 Handheld Hydrogen Leak Detector is perfectly suited to this race and its competitors because of the unit’s portability and ease of use in detecting hydrogen leaks. This is an excellent opportunity for us both, and we are excited to participate and contribute to this global project to promote clean energy.”

“We are grateful for the generous donation of the HY-ALERTA 500 Handheld Hydrogen Leak Detector from H2scan. By partnering with companies like this, we are able to further develop and safely explore new hydrogen-related technologies. Their HY-ALERTA 500 is an invaluable tool in working in a safe manner with hydrogen and in creating a winning kart,” stated Vasilios Manousiouthakis, Director of the Hydrogen Engineering Research Consortium (HERC) and faculty advisor for HercUCLA.
The first Formula Zero-sponsored race in America will take place early in April 2009 at the annual National Hydrogen Association Conference in Columbia, South Carolina, where H2scan will be a registered conference attendee. The company will continue to support HercUCLA and wishes them continued success in the Formula Zero circuit and other hydrogen-based competitions.
